A federal appeals court has cleared the way for Southern California air regulators to enforce new restrictions on the sale of certain gas-powered appliances, including commercial and industrial water heaters. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a 2-1 ruling last week upholding the limits.

The rules apply across four Los Angeles-area counties and had drawn opposition from businesses and developers who challenged the restrictions in court. With the ruling standing, the limits on gas commercial and industrial appliances can now move forward.
