Caltrans and the California State Transportation Agency marked May is Bike Month with a leadership ride and event outside the agency's Sacramento headquarters on May 7, drawing more than 100 riders alongside Transportation Secretary Toks Omishakin and local officials.

Beyond the celebration, agency leaders reiterated a commitment to expanding active transportation infrastructure statewide. Caltrans advisors said the department is adding bike lanes, crossings, and stronger connections to transit as part of its Complete Streets efforts.

For contractors, the emphasis points to continued demand for bikeway construction, roadway restriping, pedestrian crossing improvements, and multimodal transit connection projects on state and local routes. Firms with experience in Complete Streets and active transportation work may see bidding opportunities tied to these priorities.

The event was co-sponsored by the Office of Traffic Safety, the city of West Sacramento, the 50 Corridor TMA, and Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates, with the 7-mile route running from midtown Sacramento to West Sacramento and back.
