A joint venture of FlatironDragados and Sukut has secured a $1.8 billion contract to upgrade the Anderson Dam near San Jose, one of the largest public-works packages in Santa Clara County in recent years.

The dam is currently operating at reduced capacity because of seismic concerns, and the work is aimed at bringing the structure up to modern earthquake safety standards.

For contractors and subcontractors in the Bay Area, a project of this scale points to substantial subcontracting and supply opportunities tied to heavy civil, earthwork and water-infrastructure trades.
