The California Transportation Commission has approved funding for more than 150 new transportation projects statewide, backed by a combined investment of nearly $2.5 billion. The program targets highway safety improvements, infrastructure resiliency, and better access for people who walk, bike, and use transit.

The funding package draws from multiple sources. Roughly $547 million comes from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, while another $736 million is provided through Senate Bill 1, the state's Road Repair and Accountability Act. The remaining $1.1 billion is funded through the State Highway Account, the general fund, and other state and federal programs.

Among the priorities are rebuilding routes damaged by extreme weather events and strengthening the resiliency of existing infrastructure. Caltrans framed the work as part of Governor Newsom's push to build more, faster.

For contractors, the approvals signal a substantial pipeline of upcoming public-works opportunities across the state, spanning highway rehabilitation, storm-damage repair, and active transportation projects. State officials said the investments are expected to create thousands of jobs.
