Why primes advertise for DVBEs

Many California state contracts set a DVBE participation goal, and some local agencies and funding programs ask for documented outreach to DVBE firms. The hard part is finding certified firms in the right trade and region before bid day.

Contracts awarded by the Department of General Services require meeting the DVBE participation goal itself; a good faith effort is not accepted in its place there. Outreach still matters, because it's how you find the firms you need. Rules differ by agency, so follow your bid documents.

What you get

  • Your ad in every edition through your bid date, on thedailyreporter.net, and emailed to about 4,000 California construction firms
  • An online proof and a signed affidavit of publication for your records
  • Optional targeted email to firms holding DVBE certification and the license classes you choose

Common questions

Can one ad ask for DVBE, DBE and SBE firms?
Yes. List every certification you're seeking in the same ad. See also DBE outreach ads.
Where do I check a firm's DVBE certification?
The Department of General Services keeps the California certified firm search (Cal eProcure). Confirm certification before you list a firm on your bid.
